“I need your story of crazy happiness!”
Imagine that adventure rushes into your measured, smoothly current life. All of a sudden, a car breaks down in the middle of a forest, and within a radius of 10 km there is not a single settlement. You are late when transferring to your train and stay in a foreign country. Well, or quite a romantic option - in our age of technology you drive a distance of 30 km all night on a horse. Wouldn't you have fun? No, if the adventure caught you alone. But if you are not alone, but with friends, and someone said: “Nothing, break through!”, Then the impressions would remain unforgettable.
A similar adventure happened one night with Ellen Andrews. She ran away from her father and from Miami decided to take a bus to New York. But if it were so easy to get on the bus! Everyone is looking for her, she cannot even calmly buy a ticket. On the bus, she meets Peter Worn. This is where Ellen’s adventures begin ... My acquaintance with Frank Capra began with watching “This Wonderful Life”, I really liked that film, and this one too. The plot is very interesting, but the only thing I missed is the kiss of the main characters. In such a love story, he should be!
The cast of the film was chosen perfectly. The contrast between middle class simple reporter Peter Warn and spoiled girl Ellen Andrews is immediately apparent. Ellen was banned too much in her childhood, which led to her rebellion. First, she was dismissed by permanent bodyguards, then her father’s ban on marriage to King Westley. She does not know the real life, real, but after meeting with Peter, she begins to understand where the real life is full. Not in my father's luxury apartments, but in simple towns ... Claudette Colbert did not become my favorite after watching the movie, but I can’t call her a terrible game either. Something in between bad and good is normal. I really liked her heroine that she was not grimacing. Yes, Claudette Colbert had to play an arrogant lady, but the impression was that this arrogance was an actress’s quality, not a heroine’s character, but perhaps the opposite was true.
Clark Gable! Oh, Clark Gable! I objectively cannot rate this man’s game, I really like him. So let us omit this point and turn all our attention to his hero Peter Warne. Peter is not ideal, he has his own requests for girls. It looks rude and uncouth, but still a gentleman and romantic at heart. His honor and conscience is above all. Well, as in such a man does not fall in love? So Ellen could not resist.
The film was recognized as the best in 1935 and received his honored Oscar. That is what prompted me to watch it. "It happened one night" - a good comedy about road adventures, trust and love. Where do without it?
