Go away nasty
I always dreamed of seeing a meaningful approach to the topic of vampirism. Not just there, “oh cool, he bit her throat” or — even worse — rolling red eyes at the ceiling and uttering pathetic speeches, but a real deep metaphor that can tell us something, people of flesh and blood.
Well, of course, Abel Ferrara makes an attempt, but his hands are definitely not from that place. In the film, one more or less clear idea - a comparison of vampirism with fascism, people's passion for violence. You give in to this as if by chance (a strange aunt came up to you on the street and took her to the gateway), but in fact only because you have a weak will (“Tell me to leave - and I will leave!”). It is necessary to set foot on the slippery path of murder - nothing can stop you anymore. You can, of course, try to control yourself, but you can’t call the character of Walken human-loving. In general, it is interesting and even not devoid of historical meaning: the director strikes all human actions to reduce to this dependence on violence, constantly shoving pictures of fascist victims.
Well, that's just not brought to the end. The aforementioned idea is broken into pieces in the film, sprinkled with philosophical quotes that are not relevant, and scattered around the shelves in a random order. It turned out a kind of Turkish Delight, which my grandmother diligently hid from her grandson in the sideboard and as a result could not find herself.
As for the purely cinematic components, the matter is even worse. From the utterly serious mines with which the story is told, I personally was laughing. About this black-black city with black-black rappers, black-black alleys, in which black-black deeds are happening and black-black blood flows ... About these intricate sayings of ancient philosophers that are beyond the reach of the average human mind ... About these cunning vampires leading us into the abyss of human existence!
Lily Taylor is disheartening and often causes physical disgust, which - although it was the director's idea - does not make the view more exciting. In general, all the heroes want to be accused of hypocrisy and put a pot on their heads to them, so that they do not build themselves into a "higher nation."
The script is very sketchy, the plot is not interesting. Somehow stupid people behave themselves here: they do not resist violence, although this is the first animal instinct. She climbs to your throat - well, at least you should swing your hands for the sake of decency! In Abel Ferrar, the victims prefer to stand upright and beg for mercy ... At the same time, I did not notice that the vampires here had some kind of supernatural power or charm.
However, the little things are all, of course. Fans of goth culture film will not leave indifferent, but I will forget about him very soon.
