So, "Van Helsing", USA, year 2004
Mystical crossover with a mixture of fantasy and action movie.
A brief description of the plot: One of the elite knights of the secret order - Gabriel Van Helsing - arrives with a special task in Transylvania. At first, he perceives this as another simple task of destroying the next fiend, but he soon realizes that everything is much more complicated ...
The idea of combining the greatest geniuses and villains of the 19th century in one creation was conceived a long time ago, but they were only able to bring it on the screen in 2004. And not just anyone, but Stephen Sommers, who has proven himself to be such, if not masterpieces, but very good films like The Mummy, and The Mummy Returns. And this meant that we were waiting for a fascinating and sometimes funny plot, a brave and pretty pretty main character, his charming partner, and of course evil - all sorts of infernal creatures (which look very nice in the image of people), seeking to seize world domination a great ending - where do without it? In general, the film promised to be spectacular and beautiful.
So let's start with the plot. I was even surprised how Stephen Sommers - he also wrote the script - managed so harmoniously to combine so many characters in one film and - moreover - to give everyone a certain development in the course of the plot.
I was pleased with the idea of participation of a creature created by Frankenstein in the plans of Count Dracula - a very interesting and I would say, an innovative move, to which no one has yet managed to guess, and its disclosure is also well embodied. A plus.
But werewolf used a little off topic. After all, even the wolfman is theoretically not even smarter than a vampire, but much stronger and more bloodthirsty, but here he is just a “dog” (almost to the end of the film). My opinion on this is that it would be necessary to insert a scene explaining where the "union" comes from. In general, a minus.
The ending pleased. The grandiose scuffle in the style of Hollywood - it seems to be standard, but still beautiful and in its own way original.
The only thing that spoiled the opinion a bit was the excessive use of computer graphics.
Actors, as for me, were chosen if not excellent, then very well. Hugh Jackman played a great Van Helsing - holds the brand since the days of "X-Men." This is good news. Kate Beckinsale also looked good. Their tandem - generally above all praise. David Wenham - the only one to whom I could make a complaint. But not because of the game, no. It seemed strange to me the very presence of his character. Why was it created? No, of course, the partner should be - in this case he is very clever, but ... many comic moments connected directly with his hero spoil the impression of a seemingly serious picture. Although on the other hand, although this idea is not logical, in my opinion, it is rather successful, if not new. It was also nice to see Richard Roxburgh in the role of Dracula. It is also quite an interesting approach to the seemingly orderly bored image.
Of the other actors to highlight a particular one. The cute brides of Count Dracula can be commended only for their presence on the screen, but not for the acting, as they appeared rarely and in most cases they were action scenes where the conversations were, to put it mildly, not very relevant, but still and a little banal remarks, said by them, make it possible to judge the rather high level of their acting skills.
In general, the film turned out interesting, exciting and original.
A sort of fairy tale for older children and adults. Who wants to see - will not gain anything, but will not lose anything. In any case, a lot of good impressions guaranteed!
Thanks for attention.
