Miracles and only

"The Green Mile" is a mystical thriller based on the eponymous novel by Stephen King.

Having in his arsenal a powerful original and experience working with him, excellent actors and a large budget, the talented director Frank Darabont simply could not film a bad movie. And surprisingly, it has not received a single Oscar from four nominations.

Darabont had already worked on King's material, screening the legendary "Shawshank Escape". And this time the adaptation of the script turned out to be very deep, expressive and close to the original. Preserved the main character characters, successful dialogues and scenes, delivered with no less skill than the description of King. Successfully selected cast has reliably got used to images, having transferred by the game that psychological condition which the author conceived. A charismatic and little-known Michael Clarke Duncan, through an incredibly deep and emotional game, became a promising actor of the time and paved the way for future projects.

That oppressive atmosphere of death and despair, which Stephen King placed at the forefront of the novel, was realized even more due to the thoughtful staging of the main scenes. Close-ups and excellent finds of the operator, coupled with realistic scenery and a good soundtrack, tightly convey the atmosphere of the prison for suicide bombers, every minute immersing the viewer into a terrible act.

But the greater proximity to the original, which entailed a three-hour length of the film, played against Darabont. Striving to convey the incredible King's energy, the director hit the gloomy quotation of the original, turning the film into a lengthy and emotionally complex marathon, in which, with the overall highest level of production, some minor scenes looked exhausted and boring, and the play of even good actors eventually began to cause outrage.

With all this, the "Green Mile" is one of the best screen versions of Stephen King's novels.
