"The Green Mile" is both a metaphor, and just a corridor covered with green cloth, according to which the condemned lead to the execution. A few clearly drawn characters and plot lines, including the second plan, coupled with a well-balanced and balanced scenario, when the hope of salvation invariably turns into a tragedy, and every forgiveness follows a curse, - avoid the monotony that, it seems, must be inevitable in a three-hour film, whose events, in addition, develop in the same room. But the large footage of the picture is due, not least, to the imitation of an infinitely long prison time and the need to evoke in the viewer a feeling of close claustrophobia.

Following the specifics of the genre - detective mystical fantasy with the actual social overtones, the actors play with some experience, as if illustrating the mastery manual for those entering theater schools. From time to time this mostly moralizing film becomes excessively cruel. Especially in the scene of the second execution, when the guard-sadist deliberately leaves a dry sponge, which, dipping into the water first, is put on the victim's head for better current flowability. As a result, the suicide bomber starts to smoke and hiss, like a piece of meat thrown on a hot frying pan, but still remains alive.

At this point, stop noses and rush to the exit is not only present for the execution of numerous witnesses who were going to the brutal show in the prison cellar, but also to the audience in the cinema: as a rule, here the most impressionable, unable to stand, begin to leave the view. After the mass nomination for "Oscars" "Escape from Shoushenk" Frank Darabont automatically got into the number of Hollywood heavyweights.
