Night of bloody madness
What you need to make a trash, but at the same time an interesting movie about vampires? Just invite as director Rodriguez, and as a screenwriter Tarantino. And what happens? It will turn out to be a real masterpiece, a film that, despite its simplicity, will be remembered for a long time.
In principle, the plot here is not so much standard, as diverse and unexpected, for which Tarantino thanks. The two thugs, the Gekko Brothers, fleeing justice, take the priest and his family hostage and force them to cross them across the border into Mexico to a bar where they are supposed to be awaited by brothers. They manage to cross the border and get to the bar, but what awaits the heroes is not expected in a nightmare. The bar turns out to be a haven for bloodthirsty vampires who lure people like victims. The surviving heroes must survive for one night in order to survive, but how can they do this if they are waited by hordes of soulless bloodsuckers?
It’s impossible to say at the beginning of the movie that this is a real thrash horror film, since the atmosphere here is not one. The first half of the film is dedicated to the Gekko brothers themselves - cruel gangsters fleeing justice. Normal shopping can turn into a bloodbath, the benefit of these characters do not know pity. And it is not known what the fate of the family of the priest would have ended if it had not been for a visit to the above bar. What awaits us in the first half of the film? Dialogues (fortunately, they were composed by Tarantino), dialogues, and several interesting scenes. Moreover, the dialogues are so fascinating (the maitre himself did the same) that a feeling of dullness for the entire film cannot arise.
But when the characters arrive at the bar, and after one private dance, this bloody fun begins. Rodriguez did not write a tragic story, and turned everything into a real bloody feast. Vampires cruelly chop people, drink their blood, scatter people. Heads fly, hands, some are desperate to fight the creatures, but few succeed. In seconds, the bar turns into a real morgue with severed limbs.
The sight of the spectacle is impressive, but further description simply does not make sense. I will say one thing - very tense actions and feelings for the heroes are waiting for you, since the latter is accomplished just wonderful here.
We were pleased with the compositions, especially the well-known “After Dark” and other compositions, from “Tino & Tarantula”, which fit well into the overall atmosphere of the film. Well, the acting is good, especially the composition. Here both George Clooney, Tarantino himself, and Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Tom Savinni, Denny Trejo and others, moreover, all play if not well, then in detail accurately convey the emotions of the characters.
As a result, a very interesting and intense thrash film, which, compared to others, looks more skillful and more interesting. Even cheap sequels failed to achieve what is in this film.
It turns out that Tarantino is blowing and Rodriguez is able to make great films.
