Of course, one person is unlikely to be able to influence any global events such as wars and conflicts of various kinds: civil, interethnic, interracial, inter-ethnic. And sitting back, drinking tea and staying inactive, too, the trouble does not help. But you can stand up, gather people, unite for a good purpose and act.
And yet it happens that one soldier in the field. One person does more than the crowd. As an example, the hero of the film, Paul Ruesabagin, is not a great figure, but only the manager of a hotel. During the inter-ethnic conflict in Rwanda, he shelters refugees in a hotel. Of course, Paul protects people with his bare hands, all legal means available to him are not always used: communications, bribery, flattery, lies, threats, cunning, etc. But this is not important, because hundreds of people are at stake. It is important that this really happens in the real world, which survived two world wars, which brought a huge amount of horror, cruelty and violence. There is a genocide, inter-ethnic massacre, the destruction of entire nations. The world has not learned that war is evil, destruction, the worst that can be. And the most important thing is that people did not fully understand that it was necessary to live in peace and peace, to help other people, if they had trouble, and not sit with arms folded, until she touches you, comes to your house, touches you and yours close ones.
And the film demonstrates such a conflict, naturalistic, without unnecessary embellishment and melodramas, although there are rather cruel scenes of murders and massacres. And the actors are real, they don’t play, but live: Don Cheadle’s hero is essentially a simple man, but he has done more than many others, like authorities, among whom there are people, like Jean Reno’s hero who wants to help, but stumbles upon bureaucracy and others political hitch. And the colonel of the peacekeeping forces, the hero of Nick Nolte, who also wants to help, but understands and explains to those dying in the conflict that these very forces are “just like that”. And a simple operator, Joaquin Phoenix, having the opportunity to help, but being a forced servant and forced to flee, expressing the human point of view: “Lord, how embarrassing. It's a shame ... ". They and everyone else, as if in a documentary film, demonstrate how everything was.
But the world does not learn from its mistakes, because conflicts both occurred and happen, millions of people die. And maybe some people who are able and alone to influence the fate of many or simple, watching the film, will realize that you need to live in peace, help others, get up from their beds and act like Paul, help others and save someone then human lives. They will understand and will live. ... Live in the world.
